Patent your Passion Project

Nova Patent offers students a unique opportunity to ideate, build, and patent a passion project. In teams of 3-4, students collaborate on intensive projects guided by mentors with deep expertise in creating unique intellectual property. This online program is led by instructors from top universities, including Stanford, and professionals with experience at leading companies such as Meta, Google, Nuro, and NVIDIA.

Nova is the only provider of patentable passion projects for driven high school innovators

Nova connects students with top-tier  mentors from the world’s leading universities. These mentors guide students in developing patentable products and gaining advanced technical skills. At the end of the program, students will have developed a mobile or web application featuring unique intellectual property, for which they will have applied for a patent.

Learning Materials for the Visually Impaired Students

Concept: Develop tactile-based educational tools for visually impaired students, such as 3D-printed models for learning subjects like geometry or biology. Can include  interchangeable parts for different lessons or materials with distinct textures for added sensory engagement.

Materials/Tools: 3D modeling software, 3D printers, tactile-friendly materials, etc. We'll also collaborate with manufacturers for production.

Sustainable Urban Farming Module

Concept: Prototype an eco-friendly urban farming module. Can include automated irrigation, solar panels,  customizable components, (e.g., such as stackable planting units, interchangeable planters), smart tools, (e.g., sensors), automated nutrient dispensers to enhance sustainability and productivity.

Materials/Tools: 3D modeling software, 3D printers, sensors, microcontrollers (e.g., Arduino or similar), motors, LED lights, Solar Panels, Grow Trays/Planters, etc.

Advanced Smart Diabetic Care Kit

Concept: Develop an all-in-one solution to help individuals manage their diabetes. Can include integration of smart tools like a glucose monitor with real-time data tracking, insulin pens with dosage reminders, a mobile app for personalized health insights and tracking, or a wearable device for monitoring physical activity.

Materials/Tools: Bubble or Glide (no-code app builders with form integration), API integrations, wearable devices, Smart glucose monitors and insulin pens, etc.

Personalized Mental Wellness Tracking  Mobile Application

Concept: Develop a tracking system application that adapts to individual needs. Can incorporate a range of algorithms for tracking mood, sleep, and stress, offering personalized alerts and recommendations; can also  include integration with wearable devices for real-time tracking.

Materials/Tools: Bubble or Glide (no-code app builders with form integration), API integrations for health tracking devices, wearable devices, etc.

Intelligent Waste Management System

Concept: Build a  solution to optimize waste collection, sorting, and disposal processes. Can incorporate sensors for real-time monitoring of waste levels in bins or containers, use AI algorithms to plan efficient collection routes, and prototype automated sorting technologies to enhance recycling processes.

Materials /Tools: 3D modeling software, 3D printers, sensors, microcontrollers (e.g., Arduinos), motors, other electronic components, etc.

Eco-Friendly Educational Tooling and Stationery

Concept: Design eco-friendly school supplies like notebooks, pencils, or rulers made from biodegradable or recycled materials. Can include customizable features like interchangeable covers or smart tools (e.g.,  foldable rulers).

Materials/Tools: 3D modeling software, recycled paper, biodegradable plastics, or alternative materials like bamboo, etc. We'll also collaborate with manufacturers for production.

Why do a patentable project in high school?

Show your passion on college applications

Admissions committees are looking for students who can shape the future. Demonstrating your ability to innovate and create sets you apart as someone ready to make a meaningful impact.

Master the art of building

Learn how to innovate, from ideation to refinement, all the way to patenting. This process equips you with a structured approach, setting you up to confidently build and create more in the future.

Learn from the best
of the best

Our curriculum is crafted by patent holders and innovators with extensive mentorship experience. For instance, our Stanford instructors have successfully lead 40+ mobile apps from ideation to deployment

The Nova Patent Experience

Ideating
Stage 1

Define the problem, research, and build a Figma MVP with feedback.

Building
Stage 2

Build the MVP in FlutterFlow, testing and refining for deployment.

Patenting
Stage 3

Collaborate with our patent experts to draft and file your patent

The Nova Patent Admissions Process

1

First, apply and talk to an admissions officer

We'll spend some time talking about your educational goals, extracurriculars and areas of passion, and your commitment to putting in the time to develop exceptional research.

2

Confirm your patent project

We have curated a list of projects aligned with our mentors' expertise. Based on your application and interview, you will receive details about the project that best matches your interests and goals.

3

We'll take it from there

We'll place you in a cohort and you'll begin the process of developing your passion project. Our program is the only passion project program that helps high school students file patents; our teachers are from the world's leading universities and have extensive patenting experience.
